Grove Press published this, the first bilingual edition of the play, in honor of the centenary of Samuel Beckett's birth. Originally written in French, Beckett translated the work himself, and in so doing chose to revise and eliminate various passages.

Who doesn't find plays difficult to read? They are invariably set as if they were notes for performance only—very uninspiring even for the best of plays. And Waiting for Godot is arguably the best play of the last half of the 20th Century, if not one of the great plays of all time. This award winning edition was especially designed for Grove Press to celebrate the 100th anniversary of Samuel Beckett's birth. It's the first time the original French text appears face-to-face with the English version, but what's really revolutionary here is the typography itself.
