This gate leads to an aggregate of nine buildings, built over 31 years, two of them by an architect who would later design the tallest building in the world. Guest relations at the house were so unusually affectionate as to prompt twelve hundred friends to erect this testimonial as a wedding gift for their hosts. For two decades delegates congregated here annually to confer on the arbitration of world peace. One of the many groups to became an institution at this unusual place was "The Old Boys Club."
